A Claude Code /loop quietly stops after seven days

Claude Code's /loop and scheduled tasks are handy, but its docs list limits that end runs without an error. (Claude Code docs)

  1. Recurring tasks expire 7 days after creation. The task fires one last time, then deletes itself.
  2. Tasks only fire while Claude Code is running and idle. Close the terminal or let the session exit, and they stop.
  3. No catch-up. A restored task skips the runs it missed while the session wasn't running.

For anything that must keep running, the docs point to cloud or Desktop scheduled tasks instead.

The fix: end each run by pinging a heartbeat URL. If the loop expired or the session closed, the missing check-in alerts you.
